Initiate Theatre provides workshops, professional theatre and event entertainment throughout the Northwest. Our academies are run by Industry professionals, with years of experience teaching students of all ages. Andrew Sumner, the Artistic Director, has performed nationally & internationally and specialises in Shakespeare tuition. Emily Bentkowski, the weekly tutor, has a dance and drama degree, and is now working with Initiate Theatre on a regular basis, as well as freelancing for others.
Our terms follow a set structure, focusing on different practitioners and their techniques. We also work towards performances and exams, and provide opportunities to learn from other tutors and directors in one off sessions. The first session is always free, so come down and give it a go!

Thursdays: Ground Up Craft Group, 1 – 3pm
Ground UP is a programme of artist residencies focusing on celebrating the uniqueness, the individuality, the commonality of all the areas that form part of South West Burnley.
Embracing process not product, art as a social function, and artists as ‘context providers’ rather than ‘content providers’ are the overarching philosophies of the programme.
Ground-UP will be facilitated by three creative collaborators – Cath Ford, Iain Broadley and Dr Stephanie Hawke.
You can also find them on facebook, so ‘like’ their page for regular updates and to join the conversation.
