Burnley locals get chance to programme arts events

Burnley Mechanics are giving local people the chance to choose and host professional arts and music events in the Front Room space.

The new project is looking for volunteers to become Community Promoters and help make the Front Room a home for professional, music, theatre and art within The Burnley Mechanics. Local people will be given the chance to join in with the programming process, choose which shows happen and then get involved with promoting and hosting the events.

The Mechanics are looking for volunteers from all walks of life to get involved, and the hours and commitment to the project is flexible.

The Front Room, which is already a successful bistro space, has been fitted out with all the equipment needed to host professional theatre and music. Programming has already begun, with three exciting new shows coming to the Front Room this Autumn and volunteers will be given the chance to work with the artists, create marketing campaigns and organise the event on the evening. Tickets and details of the shows coming to The Front Room this Autumn are available online now, or by calling the box office on 01282 664 400.

Speaking about working with the new Community Promoters, community engagement coordinator Stephie Jessop said:

‘We’re really looking forward to opening up the Front Room as a successful performance space, and we think the best way to do this, is to make sure the shows we programme are ones that the people of Burnley want to see.’

Monthly community promoters meetings will start taking place in September, and anyone who is interested in getting involved should contact Stephie by emailing stephie@culturapedia.co or calling 01254 674 777.
